Family Physician Recruited for Hantsport Collaborative Practice

A new family physician has been recruited for the Hantsport area.  Dr. Judy Price, recently retired from the Canadian military, will start at the Hantsport Collaborative Practice on February 25, 2013.

“We are very pleased that Dr. Price has decided to join the family practice in Hantsport,” said Rick Gibson, Chief, District Department of Family Practice at Capital Health.  “By starting to practice next week, this ensures that there will be continuous physician care for the patients in this community.”

Patients of the Hantsport Collaborative Practice can continue to make appointments as usual, either with Dr. Price or nurse practitioner Dawn Lowe.

“This is great news for residents of Hantsport,” said Health and Wellness Minister David Wilson. “We know there can be difficulties that come with recruiting and retaining physicians in rural areas, but by working with our partners to attract qualified candidates and through the support of our Better Care Sooner plan, we are improving access to care for all Nova Scotians.”

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Price returning to our community to practice medicine,” said Robbie Zwicker, Mayor, Town of Hantsport.  “Being from Hantsport, we know she is well aware of the many reasons that Hantsport is a great place to live and work. Our council sends a sincere thank you to Capital Health for their hard work, and quick resolution to finding a physician for Hantsport.”

Dr. Price has been practicing medicine for 10 years, and is looking forward to being back at home in the Hantsport community.

Capital Health would like to thank the Department of Health and Wellness for its assistance with recruiting a family physician to the Hantsport area.  As well, we would like to thank Dr. Yuri Canete for his time spent at the Hantsport Collaborative Practice.
