Town Council 2: school renovaions, food bank wants land, cost of waste removal, chosing of child attendant

Part 2.
(Note that I did check facts and figures for part one and changed as necessary. However, I can't access that post to indicate changes were made.)

The school board welcomes representation and ideas from the community as it plans for alterations to Hantsport School.  Mayor Rob Zwicker with Deputy Mayor Harold Bulger as his alternate volunteered to join the school steering committee.
Councillor Margot Bureau, who represents council on the regional library board, recommended that the town suggest the library be moved to the wing opposite from its current location. This would give the library its own entrance and other needed benefits.
The change in assessment to MBP&P will not change the town's contribution to education which is based on population.

Jo Hazel, co-coordinator of the Hantsport & Area Food Bank, wrote a letter suggesting the town
contribute the parcel of land on Chittick Avenue directly across from the Roman Catholic Church for a permanent building for the food bank. The land, however, has been saved for a service station. The Deputy Mayor suggested this is unlikely for environmental reasons because the land is located beside Tannery Creek. The Mayor noted that 75% of the Food Bank clients are from Kings County and perhaps the food bank could be located there. Council agreed to work with Jo and her committee.

Ross Maybee, Valley Waste Resource Management, reported that the company estimates for 2013 - 2014 that Hantsport will pay $163.12 per unit for waste removal with a possible rebate. In 2012- 2013, it paid $158.48 and received a $4100 rebate. Council approved the motions he submitted.

A question arose about the choosing of the child attendant for the Apple Blossom Festival. Currently Angela Pelton, co-ordinator of Hantsport's Apple Blossom event, has chosen one candidate. Coun. Bureau stated that there are parents who would like to see members of their families considered.  The CAO would like to see more details on how the money is spent.
