How we won a free trip on Silva

The book clubs had to submit a letter to CBC stating why they wanted to sail on Silva. Several writers were also on board with copies of their books. The letter had to state which book we would like a copy of. (Yes, you can now end a sentence with a preposition!)  Here is our winning entry!

The FHPL Book Club Sets Sail
by Leah Winter

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That starts from the town of Hantsport

To board the Silva ship.

The ‘Friends of the Hantsport Library’,
Just formed in twenty-ten,
Began a Book Club at that time
Nine women but no men,
women but no men.

Was once renowned for shipbuilding,
DaSilva’s art near tossed,
Hantsport must find ways to make ends meet or its

Library may be lost, library may be lost.

The ship will sail, we’re thrilled to know, with authors there on board Lorne Elliott
Sue Goyette too
And William J Kowalski

There’s Greg Malone
And lastly Russell Wangersky,

As guests of CBC.

So this is the tale of these bookclubbers,
Aged fifty to ninety-three,
A chance to sail in their ‘sunset years’

Amazing, all agree.

Leah and Librarian Liz
And Lillian and Jan
Then also Mary-Ellen and Dale

 With Heather, Jacquie and Fran.

Follett’s Fall of Giants just done
We need a much lighter tome,
Lorne Elliott’s Beach Reading,
Is one we’d all take home.

As friends now, having met each month
We’re hoping we will be,
On Silva with Mainstreet’s Domet
As guests of CBC.

...with apologies to Sherwood Schwartz (‘The Ballad of Gilligan’s Isle’)
