Mayor Rob Zwicker suggested at the September council meeting that CAO Rob Frost research the future of the Hantsport Public Library. Eventually council agreed to form a committee for that purpose.
Councillor Margot Bureau, the town's rep on the Valley Regional Library Board, strongly suggested that a public library was a wonderful opportunity to improve the community. A building with the library could include a museum and a display of Scotia Investment's work in the greening the environment. She suggested a committee be formed.
The mayor said that was excellent but who will pay for it?
Margot stated that the committee will determine the cost of the building, the maintenance cost, and how much the municipalities will contribute. Once this is done, the committee will present the findings to council. She also stated that funds can be raised from local donors and through fund-raising.
Deputy Mayor Harold Bulger agreed with the formation of the committee and volunteered to chair it.
Councillor Faye Hill felt that the CAO should have input first and then the committee could be formed.
The committee will include
CAO Rob Frost
1 rep from Glooscap
1 from Kings County
1 from Hants Coiunty
2 from Hantsport - Harold and Margot
2 from Friends of the Hantsport Public Library
2 from the general public to be chosen by council
The deadline for the committee's report is the end of the calendar year.
Chairperson of the FHPL Lorraine McQueen stated she was grateful that council decided to move forward on this.
