HMCC FUNDRAISING GALA IN HONOUR OF BILL MULHALL

On Saturday, October 5, Hantsport honoured Bill Mulhall, one of the founders of the Hantsport Memorial Community Centre and outstanding community volunteer. For a few moments that evening he wore his brown Stetson which MC Wayne Folker recalled hitting with a snowball when he was a youngster. (Is that Bill or is it Fred Astaire?)

Bill and Ruth, his wife, were guests of honour.

Bill shared some of HMCC's history. He recalled that in Canada's centennial year, the town responded to the federal government's invitation to select projects to improve the town.

Hantsport had two projects relating to HMCC. One was the organization of the Marine Room. The other was the restoration of Churchill House. "It certainly needed it!" Bill named Jim Robertson in particular for his organizing the renovations of the interior. The irreplaceable wallpaper in the music room was badly damaged. Jim restored it. Bill recalled seeing Jim lying on his back on scaffolding painting the ceiling of the Green Room.

Bill concluded saying, "In the end, it's not the years in your life which count but the life in your years. Hope to see you all at 100!"
