Wayne to run barefoot this winter

Wayne running in October Harvest Fest race.

Wayne will try to run barefoot this winter. In the past he has run almost barefoot in the winter but with a mitten-like sock on his feet.

Wayne has been a runner all his life. A few years ago, an African woman barefoot runner in the New York Marathon inspired him to try.  On a nice warm day, he decided to run bare foot.

He found that running or jogging doesn't hurt his feet but racing can. Wayne finds running in the woods is most pleasant, as long as he don't run on thorns.

Initially he had blisters but they didn't last long. Wayne suggests people start by jogging on a fairly smooth surface on a warm day.

Wayne tries 5 times a week to run 10 k. He lands on the pad of his foot. His heel never touches the ground - but it comes close. This gives a smoother run than landing on his heel.

Try it!
