Introduction

My name is Alison McQueen and I have been a resident of Hantsport since 2004.  Over the years I have observed many issues dealing with accessibility in Hantsport. I intend to bring these issues front and centre over the coming year. Once a month I will update the accessibility issues in our Town.

Accessibility should be a concern for everyone.  Young children, persons with visual impairments or hard of hearing, those with mobility issues using canes walkers and wheelchairs, persons with dementia and even parents pushing strollers.  All of them need safe, convenient and easy access so they can go to their destination without facing barriers.

I use both a manual and electric wheelchair to get around Town but I am not writing this column strictly with me in mind.  I am writing this column to point out some important accessibility issues which I feel affect all of us.
