I get lots of help from my friends!

This will be my last post from 14013 Main Street. Tomorrow Robin and I with the help of several wonderful friends are moving back to 49 Avon Street.
I have enjoyed living up here on the hill. Great sunrises! Birds actually fly below the back window. Nice neighbours.
But it will be wonderful to move to our new home.
Paul and Gary have been miracle workers in taking this project from a 1860s house to a 2013 home. Thanks so much, guys! And thanks to all those have been so great with the moral support.

And thanks to my advertisers who help me keep this blog in the black.

I hope to be back up later next week to report on events including the town council meeting on October 1st.

Proposed Seniors' Complex

The meeting at the fire hall started at 7pm last night. The presentation was given by Hugh Bray, Business Development Manager and  Stephen Vaslet, Project Manager, from MHPM Project Leaders,Halifax. This company provides Project Leadership for Long Term Care Projects. The purpose of the meeting was to provide information to the Town Council, other business owners in the town and also the citizens of the town regarding the  Long Term Care Facility Development Process. This meeting initally came about starting from Imagine Hantsport..
The meeting was extremely informative, covering  Continueing Care,The Eden Alternative Domains of Well-Being, and Residential Care Facilities For Seniors in Nova Scotia and the many benifits such a facility would have to Hantsport and the surrounding areas.  Hugh Bray and Steven Vaslet answered questions from those in attendance which included the Mayor, council, and the citizens in attendance. Those in attendance were  told by MHPM that the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness had announced more than 1100 new and replacement beds for Nova Scotia and in addition  funding for 1500 new home care spacesadding that our meeting with them was very timely..

Good Samaritans helping PW.

With the reduction in the Public Works staff, people are pitching in. I know of three people who will remain anonymous are doing what they can to clean up the town.
Do you of other work done by anonymous people?

One maintains this flower bed.

How we won a free trip on Silva

The book clubs had to submit a letter to CBC stating why they wanted to sail on Silva. Several writers were also on board with copies of their books. The letter had to state which book we would like a copy of. (Yes, you can now end a sentence with a preposition!)  Here is our winning entry!

The FHPL Book Club Sets Sail
by Leah Winter

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That starts from the town of Hantsport

To board the Silva ship.

The ‘Friends of the Hantsport Library’,
Just formed in twenty-ten,
Began a Book Club at that time
Nine women but no men,
women but no men.

Hantsport Book Club sets sail! - YOU CAN TOO!

The Hantsport Book Club submitted a letter stating why we wanted to sail Halifax harbour during the Word on the Street celebration on Sunday, September 22. And we were one of several to win!!!
Here's the proof!

(LR) Jan Gnemmi, Leah Winter, Liz Gibson, Mary Ellen Carpenter.
Dale Kelly-Burke, Larry Passmore, and Heather Davidson also sailed.

Silva.
Tall Ship Silva was built in Karlstad, Sweden in 1939 as a 130' three masted steel schooner. During the first two decades of her life, she was traded with general cargo under sail and motor in Western Europe. In the 1960's Silva was refitted as a bulk freighter, having her sailing rig removed. Silva continued coastal trading n Sweden until 1994. In the summer of 2001, she was towed to North America and restoration was undertaken.

She is now completely re-furbished and offers a unique and relaxing atmosphere and is simply the finest charter board Halifax has to offer.
