LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Opinion .....

Dear Ed.,

The Annexation of Hants Border.

I’m sure we have all been following the political events unfolding in the Ukraine with Russia sending in their troops to annex the Crimea peninsula from their Motherland with the West & NATO not being able to do a darn thing to stop them.
Why did the Russians do it?.....Because they can & who knows where it will finish up in that part of our world.
Recently another similar, more serious plot has been exposed locally & I am very concerned about the possible consequences,

At the recent Hantsport Town public meeting it was revealed that the Hantsport Town Council has a secret plan to annex my home village of Hants Border to bring us under their governance, mainly to increase their shrinking tax revenue.

Whether they can negotiate this annexation or whether they plan to annex Hants Border by using force remains to be seen
but I thought my fellow residents of Hants Border should be alerted & prepared.

If the plan is to annex our village by force I will volunteer to form a Home Guard or Militia to try to resist & repel these would-be oppressors. I know for a fact that certain influential people in Hantsport regard Hants Border residents as a “parasitic community” living off the services of Hantsport but that does not justify annexation & is frankly, somewhat insulting.
However, if they come for us, my Home Guard or Militia will be ready to resist them & by physical force if necessary.
In the words of my hero Winston Churchill....”We will fight them on the beaches, we will fight them on the roads, we will fight them in the fields, ......we will not surrender”.

I appreciate that while Hants Border has a much smaller population than Hantsport, (fully mobilised with their 7 fulltime employees),
we live in the King’s County & I’m sure, with local pride at stake, we could enlist many able-bodied volunteers from Lockhartville & Avonport in any resistance movement.
Hopefully, Hantsport Town Council will see the folly of this proposed annexation but, as always....time will tell.

Regards,
David Old
