THE GREAT DEBATE: COUNCIL MEETING APRIL 1

Council appeared to recognize that the dissolution of the town is inevitable.

But do we join West Hants or do we join Kings?  Up for negotiations. 

Village status for Hantsport? Up for negotiations. 

When do we dissolve? DM Harold Bulger and CCLR Faye Hill suggested waiting until the town gets all the facts. CCL Bureaux and CLLR Morton advocated action as soon as possible. They said CAO Rob Frost had done the research and had presented the facts to council. 

Council wants to encourage as many residents as possible to attend the public meeting on Wednesday, April 9 at the school at 7 PM.  Each council member has a phone list and is calling everyone to invite them to the meeting. The mayor will have a microphone and there will be another one for questioners from the audience. 

Question: How long will the meeting last? Til midnight? 

The mayor's answer: Until the same question is repeated several times. 

Council will make its final decision at a special council meeting on Wednesday, April 16, at 7 PM at the fire hall. According to the mayor, council will discuss the matter for 10 minutes, councillors will cast their ballots, and the decision will be made at that time.
