Town council defeated Councillor Margot Bureaux's motion to keep the pool open for the year by a vote of 2 : 4.
At its regular monthly council meeting on May 6 Bureaux pleaded for the pool. After a length discussion, the consensus was that the town could not afford it. The biggest cost would be the staff.
Later, when Mayor Rob Zwicker suggested that the town reduce its tax rate, Deputy Mayor Harold Bulger argued that the town keep the current tax rate. It could then keep the pool open and provide toilet paper for the playground washrooms. To reduce the tax rate and lose these services would be "stupid" in his opinion. The town considered option such as no toilet paper, keeping the washrooms closed, and getting volunteers to clean the washrooms. This will be referred to HMCC.
