February start: Hantsport Public Library!

It's a wonderful start to the year for the Save Hantsport Public Library campaign. For those of you who haven't yet seen it on our website/Facebook page, or in the Hants Journal, the big news was announced in mid-December that we'd received a very generous donation from members of the Jodrey family and that our relocated library will be called the Isabel and Roy Jodrey Memorial Library. Please read the attached news release for all the details and visit ourwebsite to see the pictures taken at the Hantsport Town Hall on December 15th.
With this donation the SHPL campaign has reached the fundraising goal that allows us to commence renovations. The tender for a contractor is now posted and we anticipate the work to start next month. Yes, it is okay to cheer out loud.

I'd also like to invite you all to come "Brunch With Friends" on January 18th at Churchill House. This is the first in a series of three Winter Warm-ups hosted by the Friends of the Hantsport Public Library. Tickets are $10/person and brunch will be served from 11am until 1pm. For more info/tickets please call the Library at 902-684-4005 or email thefhpl@gmail.com (or reply to this email if you'd rather). Event poster is attached.

Thank you all for your continued support of the SHPL campaign.

Regards,
Leah Winter,

Family of Isabel  and Roy Jodrey Support New Library

The Hantsport Library  Committee and Hantsport Town Council are pleased to announce
that some members of  the family of the late Isabel and Roy Jodrey have donated
$100,000 toward the Hantsport Library Relocation and  Renovation project.

In 1927, Roy Jodrey, native of Gaspereau, decided to locate  his new ground wood pulp
mill in Hantsport. In 1935, across  the street from Minas  Basin Pulp and  Power,  his new
Canadian Keyes Fibre  Company (today's CKF) began producing paper plates. year
later, Roy, Isabel, and their three children moved to Hantsport. Following the Second
World War, the two original companies were joined by others under the umbrella
organization Scotia Investments Limited.

The Jodrey family has always been very generous  to Hantsport by supporting community
groups and organizations, such as the  Hantsport Memorial Community  Centre. The
recent donation will go long way toward ensuring that the library project goes ahead
and becomes an excellent asset for the Hantsport community for generations to come.
With this in mind, the Town Council unanimously agreed to name the new library the
Isabel and Roy Jodrey Memorial Library.

Harold Bulger, Chair of  the Library Committee and Deputy Mayor, stated: "We are so
excited that we will now be able to move forward with this great initiative, and  that
citizens will be able  to make use of  this great resource. Many thanks to those members of
the Jodrey family for their  support."

Chair of  the Fundraising Committee and Town Councillor, Margot  Bureaux said:
"With this substantial donation we know that with a little  more work from the
fundraising committee we will be able  to reach the amount of money needed  o create the
library we want. We have a few great events coming up in the following months, and
this, combined with continued support from  he community, will see our project
 completed."
