Hantsport Princess 2015 Mackenzie Kelly believes that the Apple Blossom Festival's theme - Appily Ever After - is not a goal but a state of mind. She is also delighted that the phrases Leadership Candidate and Community Ambassador have been added to the word Princess. They better reflect the role today. Now a princess, Mackenzie is wearing makeup and curling her hair for the first time in her life.
When you shop at Pharmasave, you will see Mackenzie working full time at the cash register. Her goal is to train to become a veterinarian technician and to work in a clinic or a zoo.
Many of Mackenzie's volunteer hours are spent with animals. She is a volunteer at Hope for Wildlife in Seaforth and with Feral Cats.
Just before Christmas, she rescued a barred owl. She held him in a towel while they were driven from New Minas to Mount Uniacke. The bird's broken wing was later put in a cast. After the snow melted, Mackenzie watched the owl when it was released.
One of Mackenzie's customers and former teacher asked her if she had written an acceptance speech to be used when she is crowned queen. When she confessed that she hadn't, the person suggested she be prepared.
Whatever the outcome, Mackenzie is looking forward to Apple Blossom Festival.
