For several months my beautiful Bella has been peeing on the floor when I go out. Not all the time, but enough.
She has been eating a kibble for skin-sensative problems.
Of course I took her to the vet and discovered Bella has problems with her liver. And so I have been giving her probiotics FortiFlora and Thera-Bites and they worked for awhile. When they were not longer working, we added a little red pill Stilbestrollma.
But when I came home Thursday afternoon - Dec. 3 - a long trail and puddle of pee!
What do do? Google it!
Did. And found that dogs with liver problems should not eat kibble. Kibble is dry and dogs need to drink a lot of water to digest it.
Luckily I had a recipe for home-made dog food from Bob Cook. I made it up Thursday night. I had fed her her regular kibble Thursday at supper time. Bella started on the new food Friday morning.
I cannot believe the change in Bella since she started eating her new homemade food.
-no more drinking huge quantities of water
-no peeing on the food
-much less drooling
-more active physically and mentally
-the other day for the first time in months. - she wanted me to throw a rope toy for her to chase
-and the other day she took over Ali's favourite place on the couch!
I haven't told my vet yet about the change because I just wanted to make sure that it would or might last. I will call her this week. Today is Monday. So far, so good.
Someone suggested that Bella may be reacting to her dog food - it is DD Skin Food Sensitive.
I believe she was peeing on the floor before she went on that food.
I'm hoping to get a partial refund on the dog food which I bought from the vet.
And I'll keep on with the probiotics until they are finished. They shouldn't do her any harm.
Here is Bob Cook's recipe:
Dog Food: (please use organic ingredients when possible)
900g (1 lb) ground chicken
2 cups millet or rice (cooked as per packaged)
4 large eggs
1500 - 2000g mixed vegetables.
1/4 cup coconut, avocado oil, or butter
Steam the vegs and reduce liquid as much as possible.
Mash ( or puree) the vegs and stir in chicken.
Mix in cooked millet or rice.
Beat or blend the eggs with oil and combine all ingredients together.
Add garlic for anti-flea or adjust ingredients and add supplements, etc.
I froze half of it.
A medium size dog gets about 1/2 - 3/4 cup twice day.
Adjust servings for your dogs health and happiness.
PS Bella's hips are fragile and last night she stepped the wrong way on our walk. As a result she is lame this AM but she is eating her new food - 1 cup 2x a day. (She was getting 1 3/4 of her kibble.)
