Next steps in Hantsport's dissolution.

CAO Rob Frost outlined  next steps in Hantsport's dissolution at  the May 6 meeting:

  • He will fill in the province's application with information including the 2014 - 2015 budget  and the land use map.
  • Council will approve the application which will be sent to the Utilities and Review Board. The URB will set the date for the preliminary hearing.
  • Hantport will send letters to the municipalities of West Hants and Kings informing them that the process has started and asking them to come to the table to discuss Hantsport's future.
  • The province will help in the dissolution and appoint a transition co-ordinator. Included in the negotiations will be: the mayor, one Hantsport councillor, the wardens and one councillor from each of Kings and West Hants, the CAO of all three municipal units, and a provincial representative.
Hantsport will negotiate with Kings and West Hants separately - "provided Kings is interested", the Mayor added.

Council elected CLLR Paul Morton to serve with the mayor. Rob Fredericks is the alternative.
