There are places in the world today where girls cannot attend school when they are having their menstrual cycles.
Instead they stay home and sit on cardboard which absorbs their blood. Or they put moss or sawdust in their panties to absorb the blood.
Now women here in Nova Scotia and elsewhere are putting together kits which include cotton and therefore washable pads, panties, and soap to help.
And guess what! Colourful cotton - anything but white! - is used.
In some places, these kits are distributed to Food Banks. Therefore women can spend their money on food rather than on sanitary products.
Paula David has spoken to several groups of Women's Institute of Nova Scotia about this worthwhile project.
