Extremely high & low tide Oct. 17

According to the Blomidon Naturalists Society's Natural History Calendar, on Wednesday, October 17, we will experience some of the lowest and highest tides of the season.

Low tide: 8:48 of almost nil.

High tide: 14:48 of 16.0 metres

This was the time of year when ships generally were launched in Hantsport.
The men cut the wood for the ship in the winter.
Construction of the ship began - close to a tidal river but above the usual high tide mark - in the spring.
The ship was launched at the high tide of the highest tide of the season.

Margaret F.  Dick ready to launch. Farquier & Porter's Shipyard (formerly J.B. North)  Hants Border 1918.
House currently at this location on Avon Street Extension is owned by Joan and David Folker.
Copied from Tide & Timber by Allan Robertson.

There will another very low and high tide on November 15.
Low: 7:29
High: 16.2

If you are unable to see these tides for yourself, consult this blog. There will also be pics in the November issue of NEWS & VIEWS.
