News Release
Lockhartville, Kings County, N.S March 14, 2013
The Hantsport Fire Department was called to a barn fire at 386 Lockhartville Road, Lockhartville, Kings County at 1:49pm, March 14. Upon arrival firefighters found a 30 x 50 barn fully engulf with fire. The barn was being used for storage at the time of the fire. The fire did spread to a nearby home; however firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire and the house suffered only minor damage.
Mutual Aid was requested from Windsor, Wolfville, Brooklyn, Greenwich and New Minas to the scene while Kentville Fire provided standby coverage to other stations.
The cause is still under investigation by the Hantsport Fire Department. The barn was insured. There was one minor injury to a firefighter on scene. The firefighter was treated on scene and released.
House owned by Karen and Steve Price.
I did not try to get close to the fire itself. The narrow road was congested with trucks, hoses, and firefighters.
The pics show how useful the pond on HWY 1 at the Ben Jackson Interchange was used as a water supply. Since the fire in Lockhartville at Dane Beckwith's place, access to the pond has been improved.
