HMCC Report April 2013
The April
meeting of the HMCC Board held on April 9th, 2013.
The following business was discussed:
The Community
Jobs and Facilities Improvement Program Grant of $5000.00 has allowed us
to have a Home Inspection Report on the condition of Churchill House. This has now been received and will be
discussed by the Board at its next meeting. Critical electrical repairs are
still to be completed with the funds received from this grant.
Board members
are now working on a revised Town of Hantsport and HMCC Agreement as this
agreement is seven years old. The
Agreement sets out the responsibilities of each party and indicates how they
will work together for the benefit of the community.
HMCC is
sponsoring two projects in support of the Food Bank: the "Running on
Empty" project and the Community Garden.
For information on these projects or to volunteer please send a message
to hmccinfo@gmail.com
Board members will be gathering at Churchill House from 9am
– noon on Saturday morning of April 20 and 9am – noon on Saturday morning April
27 to do a good Spring clean up of the House.
We will welcome any and all hearty souls who would like to join us in
the great cobweb chase!
The Board is
also looking forward to the Town Spring Clean Up Day and will be sorting and
cleaning up the items in the Red Barn before that date. If you know of any precious things in that
Barn, or would like to look at what is available for possible purchase, please
get in touch with Rob Frederick the HMCC Head Red Barn Cleaner or send a
message to hmccinfo@gmail.com
The Community
Business Development Corporations (CBDC) Kings-Hants has approved a grant for
a Consultant Advisory Service program for HMCC. This will provide an experienced consultant
who will do a diagnostic assessment of the HMCC and it options for
sustainability. The consultant is Jim
Moore from Truro and his report is due by July 31. This report will continue the work on HMCC
Future Options that the Board began in January 2013.
The Board continues to struggle with the costs of
maintaining Churchill House and the Red Barn both of which need continuous
costly maintenance. The Treasurer
reported that HMCC had received donations in memory of Captain Oscar
Langdon. We are most grateful.
Plans are underway for the HMCC portion of Canada Day. This year there will be several community
groups adding to the activities and interest for the day. It promises to be a good year! Don’t miss the Pancake Breakfast where the
new Council will keep up the tradition of excellent service.
Board members have noticed that citizens are allowing their
dogs to run freely on the Tennis Courts.
The court surfaces are fragile and must be used for tennis activity
only. Signs have been posted to that
effect and we urge all citizens to respect the HMCC facilities.
The HMCC is pleased to host Saturday Morning Coffee Talks
with Town Council from 9am to 11am on May 25, June 15, July 20 and August 17 at
Churchill House. This is to provide an opportunity for citizens to have an
informal chat with members of Council.
