GARTH'S WOOD CARVINGS

What do you do when you find yourself retired? Start a new career.
That's what Garth Lake has done. The Jubilee Lodge resident finds serenity, an enjoyment of the outdoors, and a challenge in his new hobby - bark spirit carving and animal wood carving.

Garth spent 38 years in Yukon. Now in Hantsport he uses cottonwood and cedar from British Columbia for his carvings.
He can often be found carving in the Firefighters Park on Chittick Avenue.
Garth attaches the following to each carving:

The majestic cottonwoods tower high above the forest floor.
The spirit watched over all life among their shadows.
Over time, the old trees die.
Now the spirit faces come into views.
May the protection of the spirits bring good luck,
happiness and a true appreciation of nature.

Garth explains his technique to Bruce Horne of Mount Denson.
