Hantsport Town Council agreed to designate several recreation sites in the town as Smoke Free at its July 2 meeting.
This was a result of Smoke Free Kings and Canadian Cancer Society's presentation promoting Outdoor Smoke Free Spaces at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on June 18 by Sheila Levy and Kelly Wilson. CAO Rob Frost will draw up the by bylaws.
The presenters arranged several posters on the council room wall which children had drawn to support the new bylaws.
Although there will be no enforcement officer, council expects that the signs will draw public awareness to the issue.
"You don't need to be a smoker to be at risk."
Bridgewater implemented the same plan in 2008 and other municipalities area following.
