Restoring water damage to Churchill House

Update on Churchill House

January 27, 2014

On January 8, 2014 Churchill House sustained major water damage from a separated pipe in the old kitchen on the second floor of the House.  This situation was discovered at noon on January 8 and was promptly dealt with by David Garland.  The insurance company responded on the same day and WinMar, a restoration company, was in the House the next day.

Damage was confined to the rear of the House including the old apartment kitchen (Historical Society storage room) on the second floor and the Marine Room and kitchen on the first floor.  The basement was also impacted.  No other rooms were damaged.

The HMCC Board extends its sincere appreciation to the Hantsport and Area Historical Society for their quick response to this emergency situation and their help in removing and protecting historical material.

Work to this date has been confined to drying floors, walls and goods with careful attention to doing as little further damage to the House as possible.  This has meant that the drying period has been more extended than usual.

As of Friday, January 24 most drying equipment has been removed and in the week of January 27th we will be entering into discussions with the restoration company about what repairs are needed and how best to complete them.
