When I learned that the public was encouraged to attend the regular meeting of the Hantport Memorial Community Centre but not participate, I assumed that condition was in the bylaws. I was wrong.
The question of the bylaws was discussed at the Thursday morning blog breakfast meeting at my house. Members of the blog's advisory committee - Rosanne Foy, Mary Pyke, and Mike King - attended. Craig West was unable to attend. Rosanne asked, who is a member of HMCC? I didn't know.
The HMCC bylaws were revised most recently in 2008. Here is the link to the HMCC site where the bylaws are posted. LINK
(Next I added NOTE and (2) Feb. 19/14 at 2:21 PM.)
NOTE: ARTICLE VIII - MEETINGS.
(2) The rules contained in Robert's Rules of Order shall govern the Corporation in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with the bylaws of the Corporation.
My understanding is that this means that the regular meetings are not open to the public.
In my opinion they are vague in describing particularly whether regular HMCC meetings are closed to the public and who is a member of HMCC ( ie the Corporation). What do you think?
