EITHER RAISE TAXES OR DISSOLVE TOWN

In addition to the relocation of the library, council discussed its budget.

"We are at the fork in the road," Mayor Rob Zwicker stated. "We can survive as we are today but it means no money for infrastructure and no money for capital expenditures."

The budget is balanced for the year 2014 - 2015, according to CAO Rob Frost. But, after that, the town must decide to either raise the tax rate significantly or take steps to dissolve the town.

The public is invited to attend a public meeting - Wednesday - April 9 - at 7 PM - at the school to discuss this issue. To ensure a large turnout, CCLR Paul Morton suggested the council call everyone who lives in the town.

The 15 minutes allocated to public participation extended far beyond that limit. The free-wheeling discussion included:
What is the town's priority: the pool or the library?
What is the town's vision for the next 5 years and how will it be accomplished?
Why didn't the Hantsport Homecoming Committee met with the soccer association to discuss using the soccer field for the concert?
"It was a fantastic discussion!", according to Mayor Zwicker.
