Why Chris Cuvillier is volunteer of the year

I first met Chris a few years ago at a bottle drive for minor baseball. It was held in his garage and had attracted lots of kids and adults. I had never seen so many recyclables. It was a major enterprise.

For years, Chris Caviller has been synonymous with minor baseball. When he grew up in town, he and his friends played baseball. But in the mid-2000's, the baseball program was dead.
Chris and other volunteers started Hantsport Minor Baseball. Today 60 kids play baseball in Hantsport on t-ball, rookie, mosquito, and bantam teams.
The bottle drive is the group's major fund raiser. They usually make $1000 - $2000 a year. Over the years, they have made $18,000 - $20,000.

And Chris organizes washer toss tournament. In 10 years, $40,000 from the competitions has been donated to causes such as cancer.

And Chris is a member of the Bluenose Bo-Sox Brotherhood formed in 2005. These true blue Boston Red Sox fans raise money for the IWK, minor baseball, and the Jimmy Fund in Boston.

And Chris has coached minor baseball for 10 years and Hantsport School's Junior High Boys softball team.

Some of you may remember a science project his son Layton had a few years ago. He determined the sweet spot on the baseball bat!

And now Chris and Fred Martin are the primary movers and shakers behind the Hantsport Homecoming Concert.

I spoke to Chris last night after the public meeting to discuss the future of the Red Barn. He has more ideas which he will share - after the concert!
