Hantsport resident and Hantsport School student Ezra Mendel in the role of Nicholas "played wonderfully his professional theatre debut in God's Middle Name", according to the Chronicle Herald on Friday, June 19.
The play is an hour long production put on by Halifax Theatre for Young People as part of the Stages Theatre Festival. Co-artistic director Tessa Mendel re-worked the play for a young audience. It had been written for an adult audience with adult actors.
"Ezra, 13, is believable as an autistic child, using his entire body to demonstrate characteristics without overplaying it, shaking his arms in frustration when emotions fail Nic and showing a consistent gaze, demonstrating an absorption and retreat into his own world."
According to the review, the play was performed in front of an audience made up largely of elementary school students.
God's Middle Name plays at Neptune's Scotiabank Studio Theatre on Friday at10:30 AM and Saturday and Sunday at 4 PM. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for students.
