June 2015 Update
The board of directors wanted to share this 6 month
update with our members and our community. It is only through your support that
the food bank is able to function and provide support to our clients.
During the first 6 months we assisted 343 families and
802 individuals within those families. This represents a 10% increase over last year.
Each month our client family receives a box full of
food staples along with toiletry and cleaning items. They receive fresh milk,
eggs, cheese and meat for two meals as well as fresh vegetables when available
and also their choice of breads and pastries as available. The retail value of
these orders would be for a family of 4-5, $162 and for a family of 1 or 2,
$104. When this is applied to an average month it would total $7,708.00
Our funds are raised by cash donations, grants and
fund raising events. Income tax receipts are issued for the cash donations. We
use the funds raised to purchase food items that have not been donated. Our
food donations come from our community. We have a food box at Independent
Grocer ( Save Easy) and there are numerous food drives by various organizations
during the year. We appreciate all the food donations and would request if you
wanted to drop off food such as ketchup, instant coffee, mayo, peanut
butter and toilet paper are always in demand. We have an increased
demand for Gluten-free items so they are needed. No perishable food please, as
food bank is only one day a month.
We always appreciate our volunteers and if
you would like to become a food bank worker and/ or if you are interested in
joining our management board please let us know by phone or e-mail.
On behalf of the Food Bank -- “ Thanks "
Chris Fry
President
