Should we take in Syrian refugees?

This is a hot question.

The government has pledged to bring thousands of Syrian refugees to Canada.

The pictures of refugees are heart-breaking.

They certainly need our help.

But

Some don't want to come to Canada. They hope to return home. And this is understandable.

And we have people in Canada who need our help - even here in Hantsport and area.

Many people depended on Kings Transit. One woman told me she has appointments in Windsor. The only way to get there now is to hire a taxi or ask for a ride.

Another today told me her husband is in the hospital. She does not like to drive out of town but now she has to in order to see him. She hates to ask or beg for a ride.

In the recent federal election, did you notice how many politicians focused on the middle class? The middle class is defined generally as a person making $40,000 and more a year.

I am not in the middle class.  I am not even the working poor. I guess I am the retired poor. Last week Thomas Mulcair spoke about my class but I don't know the phrase he used. And a lot of my friends are in this gray area. I am fortunate. I have a car. I can afford to buy gas. But what happens when I can't. How many of the local politicians who voted to end the bus service, are also either in the working or retired poor class?

Let's financially help the Syrians in Europe and the ones in Syria. Let's do what we can to restore their country to order and help them to return.

What do you think?

  1. We certainly need the bus back, the counsellors gave all kinds of reasons why it was too expensive. There are certain things in life that are necessary expenses they say take Dial ARide if you are in a wheelchair, how many people know how expensive this is and not available instantly. And yes bring in Syrians these people have been through hell and back, hell that most of us have ever known and never will. I saw the RCMP taking in food for the food bank today in front of Superstore. We will just have to do what we can.

  2. Heather,

Canadians should be very concerned by the irresponsible haste to bring refugees from Syria, especially without proper security (and health) screening (which normally takes at least 10 to 18 months). As you mention it would be more effective and safer to help them in or near their home countries. In any case the vast majority simply want to remain in their own country.

Traditionally Canada has been more generous in the acceptance of refugees than any other country. However there are unfortunately 14 million of refugees throughout the world. So why should Canada help those problematic refugees jump the queue who may have no intention, and probably never will, integrate into our society nor accept Canadian values and laws.

Watch this 14 minute video on the subject just released called: "By the Numbers - The Untold Story of Muslim Opinions and Demographics with Raheel Raza". For video:

    http://www.therebel.media/by_the_numbers_the_untold_story_of_muslim_opinions_demographics_the_facts_the_media_party_doesn_t_want_you_to_see

Raheel Raza is hosted by prominent Canadian Sunni Muslim lady who is also the President of Muslims Facing Tomorrow.

This new video by the Clarion Project takes on radical Islamism, its myths and how it's becoming harder and harder to speak about Islam without being fear of being a 'racist' or 'Islamophobic'.

According to the video description, “By the Numbers is an honest and open discussion about Muslim opinions and demographics. This is about the acceptance that radical Islam is a bigger problem than most politically correct governments and individuals are ready to admit.”

Using clips from blind Islamic supporters, Raza tackles the myths propped up by the left using facts, numbers and the truth. From the video:

“Is ISIS, the Islamic State, trying to penetrate the US with the refugee influx, are Muslims radicalized in US soil, are organizations such as CAIR [Council on American-Islamic Relations] who purport represent American Muslims accepting and liberal or radicalized with links to terror organizations,” the video description concludes.

The truth will shock you. The silence from the Media is deafening. It is suggested you have to watch this. It is recommended this video should be given wide distribution so all can get a better understanding of 'what is going on' in this increasing fearful world.

  3. Thanks, Anonymous. I could not follow your link. But I did find https://raheelraza.wordpress.com. Raheel Raza is a liberal Canadian muslim writer. She outlines her view of events and they are shared by many others. I'd be interested to know what you think of her ideas.
