Is Hantsport "a community of special interest"?

Nova Scotia Utility And Review Board's recently decided that it is.

West Hants is to give this status to Hantsport.

Hantsport is to retain its own councillor.

Hantsport's current boundaries will remain as they are.

The citizens' group Think Hantsport likes the decision. It maintains that the issue of polling districts was  not adequately addressed prior to dissolution.

However, the Municipality of West Hants plans to appeal this.

Warden Dauphinee maintains that his community of Three Mile Plains is also "a community of special interest". And no doubt the people of Brooklyn feel the same about their community.

It is estimated, according to the April 28, 2016 issue of the Hants Journal, that the cost of the appeal will be $20,000 - $25,000. The decision may not be made before the October 2016 municipal election.

No appeal was allowed by the UARB when it dissolved Hantsport.

  1. It is getting harder "to feel the love" for Hantsport that seemed to be expressed in the beginning of our relationship with West Hants. They seem to have found a lot of things they do not support - such as the cemetery, the HMCC, their promise not to raise taxes for at least five years. Think they might have just wanted our Fire Department so they could win their ongoing battle with the town of Windsor.
