"Another blow to the town."

As CAO Rob Frost stated to me this morning, Dr. Yuri Canete's decision to leave his new practice in Hantsport is just one more punch to the gut to the town and area.

The doctor signed a six month contract with Capital Health effective until March 5. He has accepted "a hospitalist position" at Valley Regional Health, according to Frost.

When Dr. Canete was welcomed officially at the reception on October 30, he stated, "I am here for the long haul." As reported in the December issue of NEWS & VIEWS, Town Council approved  November 6 a request from  PHARMASAVE for $9835.35 to support the new doctor. This included rent concessions and new equipment and was similar to support the town gave to Sutherland Family Dentistry.

What happened?

He may have been over qualified for the position in Hantsport but he did study Family Residency in New Jersey.

Frost stated that he is now looking for temporary and long term solutions to this disappointing turn of events.

(Ed. Readers are finding it difficult to make comments directly on the blog. I will resolve this asap. Meanwhile, send me emails at hhdavidson@eastlink.ca and I will paste them in. I did this for Danny at the end of yesterday's post.)
