Each spring there is a concern regarding potential flooding of the Halfway River. Debris piles up where the sluiceway is under the tracks. If the gates get plugged the river will continue to back up. No one seems to be looking after it. I took this pic at 12:02 and 12:03 Friday April 5/13.
Several times in the last 10 years, a similar situation as caused the river to flow over the access road and HWY 1 and caused problems for drivers.

Update: Sat. According to Peter Johnston of Public Works, it is the responsibility of the railroad to fix this potential problem.
