Hi Heather. The Jr Axewomen are still rolling with an impressive 48-24 win over the Dartmouth Lakers today. Pictured are McKinley Bezanson (team game hustle award) Abbie Fox, and Emily Zwicker (team game mvp). If the girls win their final game tomorrow at 9 they will play for gold at 3pm in East Preston. Rob Zwicker's and Jenn Fox's daughters play for a team called the Junior Axewomen. It is comprised of girls in Grades 5 and 6 from several communities. We have Emily Zwicker, Abbie Fox and McKinley Bezanson (daughter of Jamie Harvey) from our town playing on that team. Their provincials are being held in East Preston in the Dartmouth area this weekend. The girls play against several teams from around the province such as Bedford, Halifax, Dartmouth and a team from Cape Breton. They won their 1st two games and they play 3 more this weekend if they make it to the championship. This is the highest level of basketball for that age group in the province and it is called Basketball Nova Scotia Division 1 Mini Girls Provincials.
We also had two other girls from Hantsport who played for the older bantam girls Junior Axewomen division in Antigonish a couple of weekends ago. Trinity MacKenzie and Jillian Miller from Gr. 8 played on the Junior Axewomen Bantam team. Jill was selected as an all-star for her team at the provincials.
