Comfy Curves: relief for mastectomy

Many women who have a breast removed are upset many ways - physically, mentally, emotionally, and FINANCIALLY.

They discover that one breast prothesis costs $400. If it is her first prothesis, she receives a $150 rebate.  But how many can afford that? Second hand ones are available at the Lodge That Gives in Halifax but that involves a drive into the city.

Comfy Curves by Leota Daniels of Martok is the answer. Leota bought a breast prothesis several years ago.

This is the one she bought. A button on the front and back!  How natural is that? Its price varied from $60 to $100 and, according to Leota, was popular among transvestites.

It was OK but she knew she could improve on it. She knit her own and has worn the same one for four years. And she began to make them for others.

Leota nearly died in 2005. "The good Lord spared me to do this," she told  the Tapestry group which met in Wolfville last week. The group provides support and sharing for women who suffer from cancer.

The size of the knitted prothesis determines the number of rows. Leota has customers world-wide. She made an E (a DD) for a woman in Las Vegas.

Leota does not charge for the Comfy Curves. You can donate $10 if you like.

And she will send you a pattern - free, of course - if you want to knit your own.

This is one soft yarn she uses.

When she discovered that the bras ride up, she starting using  fishing lures or pebbles to give them necessary weight. SHE ADVISES YOU REMOVE THE WEIGHTS WHEN GOING THROUGH SECURITY AT THE AIRPORT!

An bra and any swimsuit can be used.
