Editorial: "Girl" vs "gal" vs "woman" vs "lady".

My reply to Rob's email about the women wining Valley Gold:

Thanks so much, Rob.
I appreciate the fact that the team members were described as "women" not as "girls". I too prefer to be described as a "woman". For me a "lady" is a kept woman and no man has ever kept me.

I had a friend who always referred to us women as ladies and I corrected him every time. A lady does not clean the toilet. That has always been my job.
What do you think? Girl? Gal? Woman? Or lady?
