The valley's own Bantam aged Junior Axewomen captured Division 1 gold today at Horton High School with a dominating victory over the St. Margaret's bay Slam 56-36. Without a doubt the youngest team in the six team field the Axewomen defeated two teams from Dartmouth, ABA Celtics and East Preston Pacers in the round robin and the Pictou Lightning in a playoff game to reach the gold medal match versus the Slam. The team includes three gals from Hantsport; McKinley Bezanson, Abbie Fox, and Emily Zwicker; Talia Boutilier from Coldbrook ;Sara Cumby, Claire Belliveau, Lauren Thompson from Kentville; Calla Newcombe from New Minas; Meaghan MacLeod from Wolfville; and Hannah Fuller from Port Williams. Bantam aged basketball includes grade 7 & 8 aged players. I suspect you may hear fire trucks before too long.
