Why consider a dog from ELDERDOG?

When I had to put Robin to sleep, I knew I needed another dog. And I now have a lovely one from ELDERDOG.

For many years I always had two dogs. That way, when one died, I would never be alone.  I would still have one and I would then get another.
Robin was our only dog for years. In the house she came from, there was a border collie who liked to herd her - since there were no sheep on that property. We decided that Robin liked being the only dog and so she was.
I wanted a female at least four years old and any breed.
I looked in all at the usual places but there was none.
And then a friend told me about ELDERDOG and I am so grateful she did. She has dogs from that organization.

I contacted ELDERDOG and ended up with Muhammad Ali - his name was Coal but I thought I could do better than that. Besides, he is big, black, and beautiful. Over-fed and under-fed but who is perfect? Yes, I asked for a female but that  wasn't important. He is gentle, affectionate, and keen to walk.

ELDERDOG has no facility but uses foster homes until a permanent home can be found. I filled out an application form and Tina, a representative, came to meet me and to inspect my house. Boy! Was I nervous! A few days later Tina phoned to say a dog was available. Did I want to meet him? I guess so! She was taking the dog to a veterinarian. And he would be bathed and groomed.

A few days later, Tina arrived with Coal. And she brought a decal for the frig stating that an ELDERDOG lives here and that it will take the dog back with something happens to me. There is also a similar decal which I put on the front window. ELDERDOG will take him back if I have a problem. ELDERDOG gave Coal aka Ali.

This is a great organization. As soon as I have a portion of my backyard fenced in, I hope to become a foster home for ELDERDOG. And then I can have 2  dogs from time to time!
