Harley Lawrence "still wandering"

Lawrence family members planted an ivory silk lilac tree in Hantsport's Riverbank Cemetery on September 21 in memory of Harley who was murdered in Berwick on October 23, 2013. The Lawrences grew up in Hantport. Ron (C), a brother and spokesperson for the family, said that Harley was never homeless. He knew he had a home and a family but he preferred to be on his own.

Brian Bishop of the Hantsport & Area Historical Society Cemetery Committee welcomed those who attended. Several years ago Harley was one of the volunteers who worked on the major cleanup of the cemetery. It was fitting that Harley was buried here and that his tree will beautify the area.

Several members of the Lawrence family shovelled earth around the tree.

Chaplain John Andrew of Open Arms recalled that Harley was a humble man. He often did not take a bed because he thought someone else could use it. With or without money, Harley was kind and generous.

Ron (L) gave a cheque to Doug Symonds (C) and Wheet Wilcox (R) for the Memorial Gardens Project. It was money left over from the Berwick vigil. On October 23, 2014, at 10 AM in Berwick a memorial garden will be opened to Harley and a painting of him will be unveiled.

Harley stayed with Richard Passmore and Sharon Burroughs in Dartmouth. Harley did all the gardening for the neighbourhood.
