As I was heading into our library on Tuesday afternoon I saw a white camper in front of the library. There were stickers from all over the US and Canada. Nothing special about that.
But also a sticker from Iceland. Did the camper go to Iceland? I found out later, YES. How? I found that out too!
And an indecipherable licence plate!
Inside the library a man and a woman were sitting at a table and peering into their laptops.
When I spoke to them, they identified themselves as Gérald and Salomé Fiaux, owners of the camper. They and their vehicle were from Switzerland. They had shipped it to the US and arrived in March. After travelling across the US and Canada, they were making arrangements to get back to Europe.
And they were using our C@P site!
A few years ago they had shipped their van and themselves to Iceland.
Salomé and I then discovered we were great fans of murder stories. And we had read many of the same authors from Iceland, Norway, Sweden, South Africa, and Australia.
While we enjoyed the blood and guts of murder stories, we also learned a lot about the people and societies surrounding the murders.
I told her of Louise Penny, the Quebec writer.
What a pleasant visit.
And a touch of Europe in Hantsport!
