HANTSPORT MEMORIAL GARDEN PLAQUED

In 2008, members of The Hantsport & Area Historical Society formed the Hantsport Cemetery Committee to develop Hantsport Memorial Garden. In it they would note graves which had either never had a gravestone or whose gravestones are now missing. On November 20, the Garden was officially opened.

Their next project is to compile the list of missing gravestones and mount it in the garden.

Those present at the opening were (LR )  David Folker, Brian Bishop, Cemetery designer Rosemary Stirrat, Doug Symonds, Jane Haliburton, Joe Foye, Wheet Wilcox, and Rosanne Foye.

A few years ago an ornamental wrought iron fence surrounding the graves of Asa and Rhoda Davison was removed from Riverbank Cemetery. Longtime resident Dale Janes tracked down the fence to the dump in Ellershouse. She contacted the manager and retrieved several pieces which she has installed in her back garden. Dale is willing to donate pieces to the Memorial Garden.

(Above) Committee members were told about this possible donation after the ceremony. Members Rosemary Stirrit and Wheet Wilcox looked at the pieces which Dale has repaired and restored. They will ask that future of the fence be discussed at the historical society's regular meeting on November 25 at 7:30 PM at the Anglican Church Hall.
